| ENERGY AUDIT |
| What is an
Energy Audit? Energy efficiency is by far the most cost-effective step we can take to reduce our carbon emissions, and the technology exists today. Many of the technologies used to increase energy efficiency will pay for themselves through energy savings. An Energy Audit is a focused review of how your facility uses energy. An energy auditor will first identify and evaluate all energy uses, and then recommend potential alternatives that will reduce energy use and save you money! With the cost of energy going up every year, businesses can no longer afford to be indifferent to their energy use. Energy costs are often considered as “just a cost of doing business.” Times have changed! There has never been a better time to consider energy conservation for your business. Remember paying $4.00 per gallon for gasoline? Paying that price was painful, but it did bring the concept of energy efficiency to the forefront of every person’s mind. For the first time since the energy crisis of the 1970s, everyone has been directly and monetarily affected by rapid increases in energy prices. What does the Energy Audit do for my business? The auditor will request copies of your business invoices for electricity, natural gas, water, and heating oil to determine how the seasons, or your particular business uses, vary from month to month. We will need invoices from at least the last two years. Next, the auditor will inspect all areas of your facility to identify energy use and look for energy waste. We take notes in every room and make a list of everything that consumes energy. We include lighting, heating, cooling, computers, office machines, vending machines, water coolers, and other energy consuming devices. As we gather information, we establish the current use patterns by asking questions such as: How many hours is the room used? How long are the lights on each day? How are the heating and cooling systems controlling the room? Are the computers programmed to hibernate? Does having an Energy Audit mean that I have to change the way I do business? NO! An Energy Audit helps you, the business owner, make informed decisions about how to better spend money on energy. There is no obligation that you change the way your business operates. Most business owners realize that they could probably save money if they made some changes, but they often do not know where to start or how to implement changes. Consequently, most businesses continue to spend thousands of dollars each year on wasted energy! We identify and quantify your energy uses and recommend workable solutions that are proven to save you money. By reducing your energy use, you are increasing your bottom line. All energy savings are tax-free dollars. The savings recur each year, increasing your profitability without requiring additional investments. Because your business is “Greener,” you can advertise and market your products and services as environmentally responsible. How much does an Energy Audit cost? Our goal is to make money by saving you money. We will develop a business proposal that works for you by meeting your specific needs. Typically, fees are based on a cost per square foot of your facility, or as a fee-for-service arrangement. We also offer a “Shared Savings” program for some of our customers. Click on the Shared Savings tab of this web site for more information. All fees for our services will be returned to you via savings that you realize by implementing our recommendations. With some simple changes your company could save 20-35% of your current energy expense. |
